BIG FN’ CALVES!

I get this question asked probably the most of them all….

“HOW DO YOU BUILD YOUR CALVES LIKE THAT?”

Here’s what I tell them:
First off, I make sure I train my calves 1-2x per week (depending on how they recovered after the first workout), then I aim to hit 200-300 REPS! total on the calf muscle. Yes, 300reps….and I pick 2-3exercises to perform those reps on. Here is a sample routine:

• Leg Press Calf Extensions: 5×25
• Seated Calf Raises: 5×20
• Standing Smith Machine Calf Raises [elevated off the ground to give a bottom stretch] 4×20

I go heavy (for myself anyways) but I tell people to pick a weight where you can perform this amount of rep-age BUT start to get a good burn going at the 65-70% point of the set.

So, to sum up my advice….lots of reps. 1-2x per week. Make the calf muscle burn, make sure to make full contractions, don’t do a weight that’s beyond your lifting limit. If you can’t properly contract the muscle, then there is no point in trying to lift that weight.
